Disentangle the Effects of Family Structure on Kids Dropping out of School – A Meta- Analytical Study

本研究採用後設分析的方法，試圖回答「家庭結構在子女中途輟學歷程中是否扮演了重要而獨特的角色？」此一問題。搜尋了多個國內外期刊論文索引資料庫後，我們共計蒐集了41篇採用邏輯迴歸方法分析中輟預測變項的研究，並登錄了71個模型分析結果，再就其中14個獨立的資料源（包含超過343，789名獨立樣本）所得到的15個分析結果進行後設分析。研究結果顯示，家庭結構對於中輟的影響，並非來自社經地位變項的外溢效果，而是有其獨特的影響力。此外，家庭結構對於中輟的影響似乎也非由學童學業成就所中介。研究者認為，社會資本等構念可能是重要的中介變項，但有待更多研究進一步檢視。最後，則針對中輟預防與中輟研究提出三點建議。

The authors conducted this meta-analytical study to examine the associations between family structure and dropping out behavior. Forty-one studies employed logistic regression method were searched and retrieved from various academic databases and 71 models were coded. The final 15 models meta-analyzed included 343，789 subjects from 14 data sources. We found that the impact of non-intact family structure on dropout behavior cannot be attributed to the spurious effects of family’s socioeconomic status. Besides， the impact of family structure on dropping out of school might not be intervened by students’ academic achievement. Three suggestions about dropout research and prevention were then proposed.
