教師的水準影響教育的成敗，提高教育水準，是教育改革、社會決策、甚至是政治決策的重要課題。提高教師水準的方法很多，提高教師社會地位及專業程度，便是其中重要的途徑。在此一前提下，研究者從事此一研究。本研究的主要目的，是了解台北市及台灣省教師的職業聲望及專業形象，提供提高教師專業地位決策的具體參考資料，其具體目的包括下列各項：（1）了解台北市及台灣省教師的職業聲望及其影響因素；（2）比較台北市與台灣省教師的職業聲望及其影響因素；（3）比較不同類別人士對於教師職業聲望評定之差異及其影響因素；（4）了解台北市與台灣省各類人員對於教師專業地位的看法，並加以比較。（5）了解師範生及非師範生對於教師專業地位的看法，並加以比較；（6）了解各類人員對提高教師專業地位有效途徑的看法；（7）歸納上述發現，提出改進教師專業地位的重要參考資料及建議。

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the occupational prestige and professional image of teachers in Taipei City and Taiwan Province so as to provide specific materials for policy on enhancing the professional status of teachers.1.
