教育不但具有社會化的功能，尚具有選擇與安置的功能。就個人而言，教育歷程中的選擇與安置結果更關係到個人日後的前途發展隨著社會各行各業專精分化的發展，接受較多的教育已成為獲優越的經濟報償與社會報償的重要條件。但是，社會所提供的高等教育機會有限，形成了每個教育階段之間─國中進入高中、高中進入大學的激烈升學競爭。多年來，激烈的升學競爭壓力導致教育上偏畸的發展，成為我國教育上急待解決的一大問題。本研究包括下列五項目的：（一）探討國中學生的升學意願。（二）探討國中學生升學選校時所考慮的一個因素。（三）探討影響國中學生升學選校之個人因素。（四）探討影響國中學生升學選校之環境因素。（五）綜合研究結果，提供國中教育及升學輔導之參考。

The main purpose of this research was to understand junior high school students’ educational aspiration before they leave the school and to find out the factors that may influence their choice of the schools. It also might provide reference to school guidance.The sample contained 863 third─grade students of Taipei Municipal junior high schools， including 461 male students and 402 female students.
