The Design of Innovative Financial Education Curriculum
The purpose of this article was to illustrate the high school innovative financial education curriculum development process and results. Content analysis was adapted to plan and design curriculum module. The survey research was used to construct assessment module. By way of industry cooperation, “Financial Rising Star Netware” was introduced to develop simulated experience module. This curriculum includes three modules: (1) Course module contains four domains: “money and transactions”, “planning and managing finances”, “risk and reward” and “financial landscape”, each domain includes three teaching units. The course objective is to enhance students’ financial literacy. Teaching financial concepts incorporated with table games, in order to explore the field of financial activity to replace the traditional textbook, and involve simulation of asset allocation, developing the inquiry-based course module; (2) Assessment module contains “financial literacy cognitive test item bank”, “financial literacy attitude scale”, 40 learning sheet and 101 quizzes. The item bank was comprised by 193 items and there are indexes of difficulty and discrimination. The attitude scale was comprised by 19 items with well reliability and validity; (3) Simulated experience module based on “knowledge of dynamic evolution of global capital markets”, by comparing the simulation weekly investment with real financial markets, so that students can understand and infer the relationship between international events financial markets and understand the concept of risk, as well as the relationship between individual risk tolerance and investment strategy.
